The Waterfront Estate

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
This gorgeous classically designed estate in Cold Spring Harbor, NY is located on four acres of land. (ABOVE) A long driveway leads to a center courtyard. The greenery around the estate and white moldings around the windows and doors soften the home and make it more approachable. (BELOW 1) This estate is located on the water. I love how it is secluded and on such a wonderful plot of land. The amount of trees surrounding the home is impeccable. (BELOW 2) The pool overlooks the water. The tree-free deck keeps the pool warm without need for water heaters. (BELOW 3) I like the elevated deck to the left and the lowered pool deck to the right. The hedges around the pool define the space. Having the raised deck to the left is perfect for entertaining and playing soccer or volleyball. (BELOW 4) These stone stairs and wall are architecturally beautiful. Without the green ivy the wall would not have the same beauty. (BELOW 5) After you walk down the stairs you are greeted by a wonderful green lawn. What a perfect place for a picnic. This wonderful lawn is located to the left of the property. What do you think of this estate?

Room Spotlight: Funky Fresh

http://theapartment.dk
This space is all about bold prints, clean design, and eclectic furniture. When I first came across this space, I was immediately drawn to the area rugs. Each rug is chosen and placed with great care, displayed like an art piece. My favorite rug is at the bottom right. It ties together all the colors found throughout the space. This space is meant to feel relaxed and casual, a creative escape at the end of the day. My favorite piece in this space is the wood console table. It has a modern design, and the wood brings much warmth into the space. If you find yourself in love with this space, and want to create a similar look then take a trip to AnthropologieWhat do you think of the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. My Three Tips: To A Well Designed Pool Deck

http://www.mrandmrssmith.com
Tip #1: Stone or Grass Deck?
When you are designing the pool deck, you must decide how you will use the space. Are you planning on having much outdoor furniture or space to run on and play with the kids? Use stone for the pool deck if you would like to have seating areas. A stone pool deck defines the space and keeps your furniture clean by preventing a muddy ground. A grass pool deck is ideal if you want to have more space for playing with the dog or the kids.

Tip #2: Indoor or Outdoor Furniture?
Today outdoor spaces are all about being extensions of the home. Wicker and metal furniture is not the only way to go. When choosing furniture for your pool deck select pieces that are durable yet look like they can belong in your Living or Dining room. A perfect example is the Viceroy pool deck (BELOW 2). These pieces all have an "indoor" look, yet work well outside.

Tip #3: Managing the Mess
If you don't have the luxury of having a pool house to store towels and for guests to rinse off, then plan a place on the deck. When all pool related items are neatly put away, the pool deck will feel clean and be enjoyable to use. If guests have a place to rinse off, then less dirt will be brought into the home. A little tiding will go a long way!

(ABOVE) This pool and deck is absolutely stunning. Infinity pools are a favorite of mine. The pool deck is very simple with only a few Chaise lounge chairs. Anyone getting a retro vibe from this pool deck? (BELOW 1) Here the pool deck is smaller with a greater emphasis on the lawn. This home has a fantastic patio where one may sit and soak in the beautiful rounded pool. I like the touch of having potted plants on the deck. (BELOW 2) This pool deck at the Viceroy in California is gorgeous. Designed by Kelly Wearstler, this pool deck is perfect for laying back and relaxing. I love the furniture as the pieces do not scream "outdoor". The pillows are a nice touch. Cabana's are a great idea for residential pool decks as well! (BELOW 3) Planting around the pool deck looks great. Keep plant heights varied to create interest. I love the fence around the pool, definitely has old world charm. What do you think about the pools featured here? What are some of your tips to a well designed pool deck?

Today's Must Have: June 25, 2012

These sassy Carven flats are a must have! They add just the right amount of color and sophistication to a look. When I first spotted these shoes I got a 20s inspired vibe. I would pair these shoes with a simple black dress. The shoes are statement pieces and speak strongly on their own. By pairing the shoes with a simple black dress, you are allowing them to do all the talking. Where would you wear these shoes? What kind of an outfit would you pair them with? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Castle Design: Arundel Castle

http://www.flickr.com
Arundel Castle is a restored Norman style castle located in England. It was founded in 1067 by Roger de Montgomery. Currently Arundel Castle is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk and their children.  "Arundel Castle was built during the reign of William the Conqueror as a fortification for the mouth of the River Arun and a defensive position for the surrounding land against invasion from the continent. The original structure was a motte a double bailey castle" (C&MH). (ABOVE) The front of the castle is a magnificent site. As you drive along the driveway you are surrounded by a stunning castle that holds so much history. What I find architecturally beautiful is the variation in window shapes. The three large "u" shape windows directly in front are gorgeous. The roof of the castle is also beautiful with its different shapes and heights. (BELOW 1) To enter the front courtyard you must pass through either the left or right archway. The archways are portals into a different world! A world of pure architectural beauty. (BELOW 2) A view looking down shows the breezeway. This photograph clearly calls to attention the different building materials used. I love how each face of the exterior uses a different material. (BELOW 3) A birds eye view of the castle. What a stunning view! I wish I could be the Duke of Norfolk for a day, just to experience what it's like to live here! The only downside is the castle is haunted...What do you think of the castle?

Room Spotlight: Modern Elegance

http://www.agencelove.com
When I came across this Parisian Living Room, I was immediately captivated by its modern elegance. While the apartment is traditionally styled, the interiors are simple, clean, and modern. This mix creates for a visually stimulating space. I am a huge fan of the 70s sofas, their strong shape stands out in this space. One can truly appreciate the apartment's architecture because, of the lack of clutter. The edge of the ceiling features a traditionally styled design. I like how this design follows through into the mirror, wall, and fireplace. If you look at the edge of the rug, you will notice a similar design. What do you think of the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Tara Dougans Animations

http://www.taradougans.com
Tara Dougans gif animations are phenomenal pieces of art. If you look closely, you will notice a slight movement in each piece. It took Dougans four months to create and finish the pieces. Each piece was hand drawn and custom animated. (ABOVE) The eyepiece is animated in this piece. I love the jacket, very creative. (BELOW 1) The index fingers touch and the moon appears between them. I love the disproportionate shoulders. (BELOW 2) The eyes on both the hands and face open. The LV jacket is really beautiful. (BELOW 3) The right eye moves subtly in this piece. I could see myself wearing this sweater. Definitely a cool design. (BELOW 4) The hands open to reveal "bright eyes". This piece is one of my favorites, it's the only piece to have a quick flare of light. (BELOW 5) The eyes watch two bees fly from one side to the other. I love when the eyes quickly shift to the viewer. Christmas sweater anyone? What do you think of Tara Dougans work?
