How To Design Your Home Library

http://www.vogue.com/culture/article/apt-with-lsd-samantha-boardman/

According to fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, "Books are a hard-bound drug with no danger of an overdose. I am the happy victim of books." I believe every home must have an area specifically designated for books. Books are magnificent wonders and should be given a home of their own. In today's world, electronic tablets are becoming our‘books', however, we must remember that words on a page are a far more valuable experience. For example, you can view a piece of art online, or you can view a piece of art in a museum. By going to the museum you are experiencing. (ABOVE & BELOW 1) When designing my own library I chose to use dark colors for the space, like the photograph above. Dark colors in a library, allow the binding of the books to stand out. The chandelier in this space is impeccable, as it looks like black cups with a light bulb inside it. Large chandelier's in a library are ideal as they light the space well. Be sure to add much seating to your library, it is important to be able to spread out and relax when reading. All the accessories in this space are beautiful. (BELOW 2) Arranging your books by color, is a great way to add visual interest to your bookcase. (BELOW 3) This library is a perfect example of contemporary chic, I like the deep wood floors as well as the soft color palette. Don't feel that you need to fill every book shelf with books when designing your library. Using accessories instead of books on certain shelves is a great way to break the consistency. (BELOW 4) All the different chairs create a very eclectic vibe in this library. For those tight on space, this library is a perfect example. Instead of placing a desk in the center, place a dining table and voilà, you have a library and a dining room in one! You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.
