Architect Of The Week: Michael Graves

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Portland_Building_1982.jpg

Architect Michael Graves was born in Indiana in 1934. He graduated with a masters degree from Harvard University, and has become not only a successful architect, but also a product designer. In 2010, Graves was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. (ABOVE) I like the modern futuristic vibe of the Portland Building. The building features many elements that incorporate the beauty of the Jet Age, such as the blue circles to the right side, that resemble pilot wings. I like the mixture of large and small windows. (BELOW 1) The El Gouna Steigenberger, is quite different looking from the Portland Building. I like the bold color choices of this structure. In addition, I find the center dome very interesting and a great way to break the continuity of the yellow building. (BELOW 2) The Michael C. Carlos Museum, has a beautiful front door, which is in the shape of a triangle. I have noticed that much of Graves's work is quite simple with a touch of surprise.
