Whitney Museum of American Art

The architecture of the iconic Whitney Museum, designed by Marcel Breuer and built in 1966, is an inspiration to all modern architecture lovers. Upon it's completion, it was looked upon as somber, heavy and brutal. Now however, it's looked upon as strong, and innovative. (ABOVE) It's original, and stands out from the surrounding limestone, brownstone, and brick structures. The structure looks like a set of stairs turned 360 degrees. The varied window shapes adds to the structure's overall design. (BELOW) A view of the outdoor sculpture garden. I am a huge fan of how architect Marcel Breuer, used materials and shapes to achieve an overall modern look. The museum features well known works from American 20 and 21st century artists such as Andy Warhol and Willem de Kooning. If you're in NYC, I suggest you check out this wonderful museum! What do you think of the museum's architecture?
