Mediterranean Villa In California

http://www.christiesrealestate.com/
Situated on over eleven acres, with views of the mountains, ocean, and harbor, this Mediterranean villa in California is absolutely breathtaking. (ABOVE) Right from the front gate, you are a greeted by beauty. Surrounded by nature and a winding path, this villa is a breath of fresh air. (BELOW 1) The villa's backyard is beautifully landscaped. I love the grass around the pool and the higher elevated portion of the lawn. Both the landscaping and architectural style of the villa compliment each other. (BELOW 2) I love the variation of shrubs. Overall, I find this villa to look very relaxing. It has great seclusion and is not overpowering architecturally. What are your thoughts about the villa?

When I choose these pieces I focused on unusual shapes and soft colors. Around the home you'll find great pops of color in the landscaping, however, the villa is a lighter color with a signature red Mediterranean style roof. These pieces would look amazing if placed in this home. The 1960s Doria Ball Chandelier is from Prime Gallery LLC. The Ceramic Vases are from Blend Interiors. I love their organic shapes. The vases are also in the same color family as the villa. The Vintage Swedish Rug is from Nazmiyal. The rug represents the beauty of a Mediterranean styled roof. Which piece is your favorite? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Fashion Meets Design: Yellow

http://www.elledecor.com/image/tid/6241?page=3
The color yellow is full of energy. Incorporating the color yellow into your home or outfit is always a great way to add a splash of color! Yellow is one of those colors that just puts a smile on your face. (ABOVE) I am loving the yellow chair in this office space. Between the neon yellow and the unique form, this chair needs to be in my home! (THE FASHION) The yellow dresses are absolutely divine. The first dress, features a magnificent silk-chiffon top. The pockets on the second dress, give it a retro vibe. Of the accessories, the watch and sunglasses are my favorite. Which dress and/or accessory is your favorite?

Person Of Influence: René Magritte

The Menaced Assassin
René Magritte was born in Belgium in 1898. Margritte's thought-provoking surrealist artwork became popular as it challenged observers perceptions of reality. (ABOVE) "The Menaced Assassin", is a great piece of art by Magritte. One of my biggest questions when looking at the piece is, who killed the women? With so many men standing around you really don't know. I assume it's either the man on the right with the net or the man on the left with the stick. (BELOW 1) The men falling from the sky in "Golconda", causes one to think about the meaning of reality. The building has little details and the men dressed in black, create a visually stimulating painting. (BELOW 2) I look at "Annunciation", as a building with multiple eyes watching. To me this painting says "buildings understand what is going on". (BELOW 3) I like the composition of The "Portrait of Stephy Langui". What are your thoughts about the painting? (BELOW 4) "Clear Ideas", is defiantly a thought provoking painting. I just keep thinking "what if" when I see this painting. (BELOW 4) "The Mysterious Barricades", is a cool piece. I wish there were trees that looked like this. I never thought about one big leaf with a stem resembling a tree, but in an odd way it makes sense. You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do

Spaces I'm Loving: Part I

http://polishedplum.blogspot.com/2010/02/polished-office.html
Why I Love This Space: I love this space because, of its bold design.

For instance, the armchairs have the most beautiful form. The chairs red upholstery contrasted with its white legs, adds a kick to the space. The white desk contrasted with its yellow cabinets, adds a burst of happiness. Finally, the dark floors allow the light furniture to really pop! This space is simple, elegant, and has just the right amount of surprise. Why do you love this space?

Why I Love This Space: I love this space because, of its traditional elegance mixed with contemporary touches. I love this space because of its unique layout.

The orange upholstered King Louis chair is a traditional statement in any space, however, the simple coffee table is modern. These two contrasting styles work beautifully together. Finally, the way in which the room is laid out fascinates me. The built in seating to the right is not typically seen in Living Rooms. Why do you love this space?

Why I Love This Space: I love this space because, of its laid back comfort mixed with elegant touches.

This Bedroom feels like a space I'd want to come home to at the end of the day. It's elegant yet it does not feel stiff. The traditional fireplace brings an elegant edge to the space, while the casual bed dressings and wicker armchairs give one the feeling of being on the beach. I am not sure what material the round table to the left of the photograph is, however, it reminds me of cork; another laid back element to the space. Why do you love this space?

Why I Love This Space: I love this space because, of its 1960s-70s glamour.

If you have been reading (BAD) Blog About Design for some time you will have noticed my fascination with the 60s-70s. There is something amazing about this period in design, fashion, and culture. The black cabinet to the right of the photograph, and center coffee table are absolutely amazing. The simple touches of silver have the perfect amount of reflection to liven the space. The standing lamp next to the couch screams late 60s early 70s. The gold finish is so elegant next to the white sofa. Why do you love this space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.
