Moving In: Authentic Georgian Regency

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
Hey BAD readers! I decided to change up my "Moving In" series. The posts will now simply focus on architecture rather than on both architecture, design, and fashion. Here is a link to my previous "Moving In" post, let me know if you prefer this layout or the previous one in the comments below. Located in Georgia is this very fitting Georgian Regency style home. It would be a dream to live in such a beautiful piece of architecture. Surprisingly the home was built in the 1990s. The home looks far older, it could easily pass for a home built in the 1920s or 30s. The home was designed by John Oetgen and Harrison Design. With over 14,000 square feet of living space and 1.35 acres of property, it's a home that one can definitely grow into. (ABOVE) When you drive up to the home, you're immediately grabbed by its architecture. It's classic, and elegant. I love the use of hedges, and ivy growing on the facade. It softens the brick, makes the home blend into its surroundings.

(1) How great is this front entry way? It's elegant, glamorous, very green, and simple. No crazy colors, unusual door, or imposing scones. Just classic glamour. The  green ivy on the front part of the steps is a great detail.

(2) The back of the home is extremely private. Large hedges, and shrubs create privacy. It's literally your own little world back here. I love the extended terrace. The mansard roof atop the terrace, and curtains soften the home, makes the home more laid back.

(3) A view from the back terrace looking out onto the property. The curtains bring that southern flair.

(4) The pool is a classic rectangular shape. The slate deck works well with the architecture of the home.

(5) I love this entertaining area. The red brick floors look cool against the brick house, it gives off a very American colonial look. I see myself curling up, reading a book in front of the outdoor fireplace. Of course I'd probably needed a vintage armchair, but hey! What do you think of the home? Would you move in?

Spanish Beachfront Villa

http://www.christiesrealestate.com/PropertyDetails/103621/1049394/8297/25#103621/1049394/8297/25

December in New York can be quite cold. I have decided to take my mind to a warm place for this architecture blog post. This villa located in Marbella, Spain is marvelous. With direct beach access, this home is the perfect getaway. (ABOVE) This is a traditional Spanish-style villa. The low-sloped roof above the patio is very beautiful. I like that this villa has an old world charm. (BELOW 1) The short shrubs are a great choice for this property as they do not block the water. I find the large sculptures in the water very interesting, they add a dose of the unexpected. If you look inside the pool, you will notice the stairs curve around the sculpture. (BELOW 2) I like the tiles chosen for the pool deck. They work beautifully with the home, and add a touch white. The outdoor fireplace is a great choice as Marbella can drop to 60 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter months. (BELOW 3) I like the natural design of the cabaña. The wood furniture and sculptures are warm and inviting. I could be laying on that wicker sofa as we speak.

A Texas Dream Home

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
Located on a fantastic hill in Austin, Texas is this Mediterranean inspired villa. I love a Mediterranean villa! The home is situated on over four acres of land. (ABOVE) The home has a great symmetry and balance. Once you turn onto the slopped driveway you are surrounded by views of the country, and city. The front landscaping is minimal, the focus is the home and the views. (BELOW 1) The Infinite pool makes you feel like you are floating in the sky and amongst the top of the trees. The backyard features a few terraces and balconies, which allows you to enjoy the views and be shielded from the elements. (BELOW 2) While you are lounging in the pool take a few steps over to the outdoor dining area, and put some food on the grill! The fireplace comes in handy during the cooler Texas months. What I really love is the wood ceiling. It adds a rich texture, and warmth. What do you think of the property?

Space's I'm Loving: Part XIV

http://www.lonny.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's laid back, chic feel, as well as the pottery and sculpture

Kelly Wearstler has done it again! This time, she has waved her magic Wearstler wand to design this outdoor seating area at her California home. The seating area was actually featured in Lonny Magazine and was designed to entertain Wearstler on Mother's day. The different pillows, and chairs, are chic, but because of their difference, give the space a more laid back feel. The head sculpture on the table is fabulous, the Mow Hawk hair crystals look like jewelry. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's 1920s/ 1960s feel. It's the perfect mix of old glamour meets modern glamour

This space has a fantastic 1920s/1960s vibe. The architecture of the space is clearly very turn of the century. Gold leafing, highly decorated moldings, and fireplace with columns. The actual pieces in the space are very 60s. Take for example, the scones, sofa, and arm chairs. The flooring in the space is dark, to allow for the architecture and furniture pieces to speak without competition. You can really see how all the gold accents move through the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's use of color, and unique pieces

Talk about a space with a lot of energy. The bright blue arm chairs, sculptural silver sofa, clear standing lamps are all unique pieces that work well together. The bright blue arm chairs have a very 20s feel. My favorite piece in the space would have to be the two clear standing lamps. They have both a vintage feel, but also a futuristic-like feel. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's architecture

This entry way and Dining area are all about the architecture. The archways, and slightly bending staircase in the entry way, and built in cabinets and old windows in the Dining area are very impressive. These space's feel inviting, simple, and do not compete, rather enhance the architecture. The archways allow for added height, the staircase has a feeling of being grand, but not too over the top. The built in cabinet allows for more square footage, and the original windows make one feel like they are dining in a home with much history. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your home as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.
