Entry Vestibule’s Are My Favorite

http://www.architecturaldigest.com/architects/features/2011/03/in_her_fashion_slideshow#slide=1

The first room one sees when entering your home is the entry vestibule. Make it pop. Don’t make your entry vestibule just a hallway. Add a rug, a table and some great lighting. When guests visit you, they will be amazed by your home just a couple steps in. Entry vestibule’s are my favorite, because unlike living rooms which require a sofa or a dining room which requires a table, entry vestibules can have anything. Try adding mirror to your entry vestibule, especially on the ceiling. Glass will make a usually small space feel bigger. If you want to paint the ceiling a dark color feel free to. Painting a ceiling a dark color will visually heighten the ceiling. One home I visited had a green striped ceiling in the entry vestibule. If you have more space in your entry vestibule add a couple chairs. Flowers and unique pottery will give your entry vestibule a more eclectic feel. The key to designing a successful entry vestibule is adding what you love. You can add as little or as much to your entry vestibule as you want. Don’t follow rules, just do.

Room Spotlight: Entry Vestibule

http://www.architecturaldigest.com
Imagine opening your front door and being greeted by this phenomenally designed Kelly Wearstler entry vestibule. From the intricate design on the floors to the brass staircase and vintage pieces, this space is on a different level. Many of Wearstler's spaces are done with paneled walls, it makes the space feel warm and inviting and brings in that classic edge. The stair railing to the left is very unique. It looks like cloth gently draped. My favorite piece in the space is the center table. Wearstler uses parts of the human body sporadically in her spaces. The hand table is just so cool. When designing an entry vestibule always be sure to bring in some pieces that creates a 'wow' factor. You want your guests in awe from the moment they walk in. You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Space's I'm Loving: Part XIV

http://www.lonny.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's laid back, chic feel, as well as the pottery and sculpture

Kelly Wearstler has done it again! This time, she has waved her magic Wearstler wand to design this outdoor seating area at her California home. The seating area was actually featured in Lonny Magazine and was designed to entertain Wearstler on Mother's day. The different pillows, and chairs, are chic, but because of their difference, give the space a more laid back feel. The head sculpture on the table is fabulous, the Mow Hawk hair crystals look like jewelry. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's 1920s/ 1960s feel. It's the perfect mix of old glamour meets modern glamour

This space has a fantastic 1920s/1960s vibe. The architecture of the space is clearly very turn of the century. Gold leafing, highly decorated moldings, and fireplace with columns. The actual pieces in the space are very 60s. Take for example, the scones, sofa, and arm chairs. The flooring in the space is dark, to allow for the architecture and furniture pieces to speak without competition. You can really see how all the gold accents move through the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's use of color, and unique pieces

Talk about a space with a lot of energy. The bright blue arm chairs, sculptural silver sofa, clear standing lamps are all unique pieces that work well together. The bright blue arm chairs have a very 20s feel. My favorite piece in the space would have to be the two clear standing lamps. They have both a vintage feel, but also a futuristic-like feel. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's architecture

This entry way and Dining area are all about the architecture. The archways, and slightly bending staircase in the entry way, and built in cabinets and old windows in the Dining area are very impressive. These space's feel inviting, simple, and do not compete, rather enhance the architecture. The archways allow for added height, the staircase has a feeling of being grand, but not too over the top. The built in cabinet allows for more square footage, and the original windows make one feel like they are dining in a home with much history. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your home as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Space's I'm Loving: Part XXV

http://www.desiretoinspire.net
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's clean, simple design, and neutral color palette

Even though I love Kelly Wearstler spaces, I do enjoy a clean, and simple space from time to time. A space such as the one above feels relaxing to come home to and does not play with you mind. The neutral color palette adds to this simplicity. If the furnishings were crazy colors, the space would have a very different feel. The pop of color from the painting gives the space some life and warmth. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love the contrast between the vibrant pieces and accessories minimalist architecture

The architecture of this entry vestibule is very minimalist. Parallel lines are the core of this space. The furnishings and accessories in the space, however, are very vibrant. Each piece is super ornate and very detailed. I love the contrast between the architecture and pieces. I hate when a space is predictable and this space is certainly not. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's staircase, lighting, and exterior door

This entry vestibule is quite different from the other one featured in this post. This space has a very Moroccan feel. The staircase is what gives this space that feel. Each step has a different pattern. This works well in this space, because the space itself is painted white and is simple architecturally. In addition to the staircase, I'm a big fan of the Gothic/Arabic light fixtures. These pieces work well in the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love the furniture and accessories in this space, and overall coziness

When I first saw this space, I was immediately attracted to the furniture and accessories. My favorite pieces are: the vase, sofa, mirrored console table, bust (look in mirror), and the mirror. These pieces all have a strong beauty. Overall I find the space to be quite cozy. The proximity of the furniture to each other is what gives this space that feel. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Moving In: Italian Art Nouveau Villa

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
For this week's "Moving In" post I've decided to move in to this brilliant Italian Art Nouveau Villa, located in Brescia, Italy. The six bedroom, seven bathroom home is just the right amount of house! I imagine keeping the interiors more modern, clean, and simple, with a vintage flair and subtle pops of color. (ABOVE) When you pass the gate and drive up the long driveway you're greeted by classic Italian sculptures. Being that we're actually in Italy, I don't mind the classic sculptures. (BELOW 1) The home has a very classic architectural design. I like how the roof overhangs, as well as the unique details at the top, just below the roof. (BELOW 2) The stain glass windows surrounding the entry bring some character to the home. They make the right statement. I'm curious as to what the inscription above the windows states. Can anyone read it? (BELOW 3) To the right of the home is this patio. I like how the greens are growing above. What a great place to entertain, right by the pool. The space could use a little more furnishings. Maybe a sitting area? (BELOW 4) The property has many green areas. The property is well landscaped and features a pool! I'm sold. Would you move in?

Space's I'm Loving: Part XIII

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's elegant, opulent feel, and the two symmetrical obelisks

This 18th century manor house, has character and glamour the moment you walk into the foyer. The stone walls, and patterned floor give this space such a grand and opulent feel. The symmetrical obelisks are my favorite items in the space. They ground the entry way into the Dinning Room. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's classic Southampton design with a nod to retro glamour

This Southampton Sitting Room was designed by designer Cynthia Frank. The space is infused with a classic Southampton design, yet has many unique pieces that gives the space that flair. The two armchairs have a laid back vintage feel, the rug brings a bohemian feel into the space, and the white paneled walls, and white lamps remind us of where we are! Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's architectural character, vintage furniture, and colorful prints

This space has so much architectural character. The original floors have a deeper finish. You can really see the age of the floors, quite beautiful. You can only see a glimpse of the Living Room, but I can tell that it's a great one. I love the vintage blue swivel chair, and the dark brown console table. The tie dye curtains, bring some life to this space. The two prints in the foyer, set the mood of the space. They tie everything together. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's Asian landscape wallpaper

Asian design is both intricate, and beautiful. It's unlike anything the western world has. This wallpaper not only pulls the space together, but it also tells a story. The soft, monochromatic color theme of the wallpaper works well the antique western furniture. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Moving In: Hidden Valley Estate

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
I've got a good one for you today folks! Located in Connecticut (surprised me too!) is this amazing 1920s historic estate designed by architect Edward C. Dean. The home was designed for a renown NY surgeon and NY socialite, oh la la! The architecture of the home is reflective of the original families love of travel and collecting artifacts. With over 275 acres of land, and over 8,000 sq ft of living space, you're sure to be comfortable here! (ABOVE) The front of this home is brilliant. How great are those towers! It's a mixture between castle and chateau--castle chateau chic! I love the stone wall and green hedges growing along it. The hedges soften the wall and home. To the far right, you'll notice a bridge that crosses over a stream and leads to the main house.

(1) A mile long private driveway leads to the main house. Two ivy towers flank the entry to the main house. Not having a gate, allows the original architecture of the home to speak. A gate would distract from the stone walls. I get a very English vibe from this photograph.

(2) The property is equally impeccable. With over 275 acres of land, this estate would make for the perfect getaway. A long walk, or a little fishing in the pond. It's a home to relax in from the hustle and bustle of city living

(3) I love the back of the home. I find it to have a different vibe from the front of the house. While the front of the home felt more like a castle, the back of the home feels more like a country, farm-type house.

(4) This seating area has got a very laid back, outdoors thing going for it. The wood furnishings look great against the stone facade. As much as I like the rustic vibe of the patio, I'd rather it be fully done in blue slate, and for the two sections to be connected. I'm guessing the owners decided to leave it in its original condition?

(5) The pool deck has a farmhouse vibe. A one bedroom guesthouse is adjacent the pool. With a property this gorgeous you're sure to get a lot of visitors! I wonder if the pool is original to the home? It sure looks it!

(6) Whenever I see such open spaces I just dream of running! It probably has to do with city living for me. The property is definitely a dream playground for the kids. I remember loving to adventure through the woods growing up. What do you think of the home? Would you move in?

Spaces I'm Loving: Part VI

© Oberto Gili
Why I Love This Space: I love that this space is filled with mixed-period furniture

This space is stylish, full of architectural character, and open. The mix in vintage, traditional, coastal, French, etc., furnishings gives the space so much depth and interest. Keep people guessing in your own home. Turn the corner end up in the 60s, look ahead and you're in the 1700s. Glamour is about depth. The two fuzzy looking armchairs in the first room look so comfortable, and they look so glamorous. The dark floors ground the space and the moldings add much detail. What do you love about this space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's pops of color

Color is the BEST way to give a space some much needed pizazz. I love the yellows, oranges, pinks, greens in this open space. It feels fresh and modern. With so many pops of color, minimal amounts of wall art is key. If you look at the inside part of the armrest, you'll notice a pop of stripe. Details are important in every space, so be sure to design with care. What do you love about this space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's retro furniture and accessories as well as the scale

How fun is this entry hall? It feels like it belongs in a different era. When laying out accessories on a console table don't forget about scale. I love how designer Jean-Louis Deniot arranged the different pieces, he made sure to use both taller and shorter pieces. Having taller pieces towards the ends and shorter pieces towards the center is a good start. What do you love about this space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love all the geometric shapes in this space

Plenty of geometric shapes in a space gives the space personality. No one wants to look at 90 degree angles all day long. This space featured in Lonny Magazine plays with geometric shapes the right way. It's important to not go overboard, especially in bedrooms. By using muted colors and reflective materials the space will feel open and fresh. I'm digging the two armchairs, aren't they great? What do you love about this space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.
