Living In Stripes

http://www.markuslinnenbrink.com/install/install18.html
German born, Markus Linnenbrick is well known for his love of stripped patterned everything! From stripped instillations to sculptures, Linnenbrick has applied his stripped patterns to a wide range of mediums. Linnenbrick currently lives in Brooklyn, NYC. (ABOVE) Boombox (Spain 2009), I am a huge fan of the dripped effect that Linnenbrick applied here. Can you imagine a Living Room painted like this? (BELOW 1) Whatyouhereiswhatyouget (Germany 2007), The white ceiling and black floors really pop against the stripped walls. (BELOW 2) Myyellowcountryteeth (Germany 2006), This floor instillation is wonderful. I love the different patterns found within the main stripped pattern. (BELOW 3) Timeisstillagoodthing (2008), This would be an awesome piece in a conservative space. Can'tstandupforfallingdown (2008-09), This piece would be a sick centerpiece on a Dining Room table. Definitely a conversation piece. What do you think of Linnenbrick's work?

Angular Apartment Building

© Fernando Alda
Located in Spain and design by Studio Wet & Antonio G. Linan, this apartment building has a modern design. (ABOVE) The building is made out of clay-brick. The shape of the structure is quite unusual with its hard edges. The windows are the focal point of the structure. Each window is a different size and shape. The windows are not placed in a symmetrical position. (BELOW 1) The staircase leads to the entrance of the building. (BELOW 2) The red courtyard is an awesome surprise. You expect that the exterior facade would make its way into the courtyard. Instead, you are greeted by a modern, bright, red courtyard. (BELOW 3) I love the hard angles. The building looks like the wind is cutting it. What do you think of the apartment building? Would you live here?

Architect Of The Week: Antoni Gaudi

http://www.firstpicture.net/wp-content/gallery/casa-mila/Casa-Mila-La-Pedrera-17.JPG

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/38/Casa_Batllo.jpg
Born in 1852, Antoni Gaudi is well known for Catalan Modernism. Architect of the Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, Casa Batllo, Park Guell and Colonia Guell, Gaudi has inspired the world with his numerous buildings and projects. Gaudi’s work was significantly influenced by his love of architecture, nature, religion and his birthplace Catalonia, Spain. Gaudi’s work has a very great sense of fantasy, which I adore. His work looks like something from a children’s book. Each time I look at one of his buildings I find a unique detail that I had not spotted before. The Casa Mila building is one of my favorites of his work. The unique guard rail of the balcony almost looks like chocolate. In addition, the roof’s wavy form allows rain water to slide off. Gaudi is such a perfect example of form follows function. In the future, I hope another architect can pay homage to his work.
