Wear That Space: Retro Modern

http://domino.com
Hair Colorist, Rita Hazen's beautiful New York Living Room is designed by Nate Berkus. The space was featured in the latest Domino magazine (yes they're back, so happy!) The space features many vintage pieces such as the arm chairs and coffee table. However, these vintage pieces work together to create a modern living space. I'm a huge fan of using fan of using brass in a space and love how Nate Berkus brought brass into this space. The brass opens up the space and gives the room a touch of glitter. When I was selecting some fashion picks, I wanted to focus on the colors, shapes, and style of the space. Much gold, blues, and black, as well as pieces that have both a modern, yet vintage look and feel. Would you wear that space?

Space's I'm Loving: Part VIII

http://www.architecturaldigest.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's zig zag black and white floors and vintage furniture.

This space designed by Kelly Wearstler is absolutely fabulous! With so much eye candy, my brain is on overdrive. I love the floors! This zig zag pattern is such a bold statement and totally works in this space. The pattern works in this space because, the rest of the space does not have bold graphic patterns or loud colors. The floors have their own voice and are not competing. The vintage furniture is beautiful. My favorite pieces are the sofas, and the ceiling fixture. Which do you prefer, the floors or the furniture? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's wall to wall windows and doors.

This space is extremely elegant and modern. The windows are the focal point of the space. They bring in an abundance of natural light and some of the outdoor greenery into the space. There are three doors, which when opened up will give the space a great breeze. Windows like this would look great in any home. Do you love the windows and doors? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's mix of rustic and modern touches.

Designed by Nate Berkus, this space has two very opposite styles. The first being modern and the second being rustic. For example, the table and accessories are rustic, and the painting, chairs, and apartment itself are modern. What makes this space work is the colors used. The green modern chairs work with the rustic table, because both are in the earth tone color family. Don't be afraid of mixing two completely opposite styles in your home. Just be sure to use pieces that are in the same color family to unify the space. What do you think of the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's wood walls.

The cream wood walls are the highlight of the space. They bring together all the furniture and give the space a warm and inviting feel. This space is sort of modern with a mountain feel. However, such walls would also work in a vintage space, similar to those designed by Kelly Wearstler. Do you love the walls? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Spaces I'm Loving: Part I

http://polishedplum.blogspot.com/2010/02/polished-office.html
Why I Love This Space: I love this space because, of its bold design.

For instance, the armchairs have the most beautiful form. The chairs red upholstery contrasted with its white legs, adds a kick to the space. The white desk contrasted with its yellow cabinets, adds a burst of happiness. Finally, the dark floors allow the light furniture to really pop! This space is simple, elegant, and has just the right amount of surprise. Why do you love this space?

Why I Love This Space: I love this space because, of its traditional elegance mixed with contemporary touches. I love this space because of its unique layout.

The orange upholstered King Louis chair is a traditional statement in any space, however, the simple coffee table is modern. These two contrasting styles work beautifully together. Finally, the way in which the room is laid out fascinates me. The built in seating to the right is not typically seen in Living Rooms. Why do you love this space?

Why I Love This Space: I love this space because, of its laid back comfort mixed with elegant touches.

This Bedroom feels like a space I'd want to come home to at the end of the day. It's elegant yet it does not feel stiff. The traditional fireplace brings an elegant edge to the space, while the casual bed dressings and wicker armchairs give one the feeling of being on the beach. I am not sure what material the round table to the left of the photograph is, however, it reminds me of cork; another laid back element to the space. Why do you love this space?

Why I Love This Space: I love this space because, of its 1960s-70s glamour.

If you have been reading (BAD) Blog About Design for some time you will have noticed my fascination with the 60s-70s. There is something amazing about this period in design, fashion, and culture. The black cabinet to the right of the photograph, and center coffee table are absolutely amazing. The simple touches of silver have the perfect amount of reflection to liven the space. The standing lamp next to the couch screams late 60s early 70s. The gold finish is so elegant next to the white sofa. Why do you love this space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.
