Space's I'm Loving: Part VIII

http://www.architecturaldigest.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's zig zag black and white floors and vintage furniture.

This space designed by Kelly Wearstler is absolutely fabulous! With so much eye candy, my brain is on overdrive. I love the floors! This zig zag pattern is such a bold statement and totally works in this space. The pattern works in this space because, the rest of the space does not have bold graphic patterns or loud colors. The floors have their own voice and are not competing. The vintage furniture is beautiful. My favorite pieces are the sofas, and the ceiling fixture. Which do you prefer, the floors or the furniture? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's wall to wall windows and doors.

This space is extremely elegant and modern. The windows are the focal point of the space. They bring in an abundance of natural light and some of the outdoor greenery into the space. There are three doors, which when opened up will give the space a great breeze. Windows like this would look great in any home. Do you love the windows and doors? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's mix of rustic and modern touches.

Designed by Nate Berkus, this space has two very opposite styles. The first being modern and the second being rustic. For example, the table and accessories are rustic, and the painting, chairs, and apartment itself are modern. What makes this space work is the colors used. The green modern chairs work with the rustic table, because both are in the earth tone color family. Don't be afraid of mixing two completely opposite styles in your home. Just be sure to use pieces that are in the same color family to unify the space. What do you think of the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's wood walls.

The cream wood walls are the highlight of the space. They bring together all the furniture and give the space a warm and inviting feel. This space is sort of modern with a mountain feel. However, such walls would also work in a vintage space, similar to those designed by Kelly Wearstler. Do you love the walls? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Room Spotlight: Rustic Modern

http://www.vogue.com/magazine/article/mountain-high-aerin-lauders-aspen-home/#1
I love this Living Room featured in Vogue magazine. I find this space to have a strong Rustic feel, yet not an overpowering one. All the pieces in this space truly bring the outdoors in. My favorite pieces in this space are the wood armchairs, the Cherry Blossom flowers, and fur throw. Which pieces are you favorite? The Frank Lloyd Wright inspired windows are a magnificent statement. I like how they are not covered by curtains as they allow unobstructed views of the mountains. What's your ideal mountain inspired space?

I love these pieces for my own Rustic inspired home. The vintage Rya rug is from Nazmiyal. The inspiration for the rug is tree branches. The Italian Murano chandelier is designed by Seguso and from 1stdibs Paris. The colors play into the Rustic feel, however, the fixture itself is very 50s glamour. The hand carved chair is from Belkind Bigi. The chair was created by a famous NY architect. Not only is it a functional seat, but also a beautiful sculpture. You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

A Manhattan Apartment With New Life

http://www.elledecor.com

Creative Director of Stark, Ashley Stark brings fantastic energy to this Manhattan apartment. With over 3,000 square feet of living space, and a previous tenant of over 50 years, this apartment was in desperate need of a renovation. (ABOVE) This is one of my favorite dinning rooms. It screams "rustic chic". I love how the rustic dining table and vintage blue case piece tell a story. They are both complete opposites yet work harmoniously in this space. The lamps are brilliant, as is the vintage mirror. The flowers on the rustic dining table adds height. (BELOW 1) The ceiling light fixture is very unique and works beautifully in the space. I love the simplicity of this room. It is not too designed, yet it still has a large affect  on the rest of the apartment. (BELOW 2) What does it for me in the living room is the arm chairs in the shape of hands. (BELOW 3) The white color palette of this kitchen is great. I am a huge fan that the countertops and the backsplash are the same material. (BELOW 4) The bubble chandelier adds great energy to this space. Without the chandelier I find this bedroom quite bland. You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Room Spotlight: Rustic Beachy Chic

http://www.elledecor.com
The more words one can add to describe a room the better! Rustic Beachy Chic, sounds like the perfect name for this space designed by Vicente Wolf for Ralph Pucci. The wall to wall curtains are a perfect way to create the allusion of a large window. The wire frame bed is simple and works beautifully in this space. I love the simple blue and white bed sheets, so fresh! The rustic wood table to the left is a cool surprise in the space. It adds definition to such a light and airy room. The Bertoia chair brings the wire theme to a 360. What do you like about this space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Moving In: Hidden Valley Estate

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
I've got a good one for you today folks! Located in Connecticut (surprised me too!) is this amazing 1920s historic estate designed by architect Edward C. Dean. The home was designed for a renown NY surgeon and NY socialite, oh la la! The architecture of the home is reflective of the original families love of travel and collecting artifacts. With over 275 acres of land, and over 8,000 sq ft of living space, you're sure to be comfortable here! (ABOVE) The front of this home is brilliant. How great are those towers! It's a mixture between castle and chateau--castle chateau chic! I love the stone wall and green hedges growing along it. The hedges soften the wall and home. To the far right, you'll notice a bridge that crosses over a stream and leads to the main house.

(1) A mile long private driveway leads to the main house. Two ivy towers flank the entry to the main house. Not having a gate, allows the original architecture of the home to speak. A gate would distract from the stone walls. I get a very English vibe from this photograph.

(2) The property is equally impeccable. With over 275 acres of land, this estate would make for the perfect getaway. A long walk, or a little fishing in the pond. It's a home to relax in from the hustle and bustle of city living

(3) I love the back of the home. I find it to have a different vibe from the front of the house. While the front of the home felt more like a castle, the back of the home feels more like a country, farm-type house.

(4) This seating area has got a very laid back, outdoors thing going for it. The wood furnishings look great against the stone facade. As much as I like the rustic vibe of the patio, I'd rather it be fully done in blue slate, and for the two sections to be connected. I'm guessing the owners decided to leave it in its original condition?

(5) The pool deck has a farmhouse vibe. A one bedroom guesthouse is adjacent the pool. With a property this gorgeous you're sure to get a lot of visitors! I wonder if the pool is original to the home? It sure looks it!

(6) Whenever I see such open spaces I just dream of running! It probably has to do with city living for me. The property is definitely a dream playground for the kids. I remember loving to adventure through the woods growing up. What do you think of the home? Would you move in?

Room Spotlight: Vintage Gold Glamour

http://www.jonathanadler.com
This Jonathan Adler space is full of vintage pieces that scream glamour. It's a space full of personality and little touches. My favorite piece in the space is the bird coffee table. I love how its tail goes through the glass top to complete the circle. The Lucite legs of the console table are also fantastic. I love that mix of rustic wood and modern. Which piece are you eyeing in the space? What do you think of the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Guest Blogging: Arcadian Lighting

Hi everyone! I’m Jessica, a writer for Arcadian Lighting, a website with a wonderful selection of affordable lighting fixtures and interior design inspirations every day! I’m delighted to be guest posting for Blog About Design because I'm going to be sharing beautiful interiors that feature exposed closets. Whether you have very little closet space or you want to display your favorite pieces of clothing, exposed closets are a cool way to stay organized. I hope you enjoy!
Exposed Closet
An exposed closet is perfect for a room with a crisp, minimal design aesthetic. The clothing adds plenty of color and pattern to a simple all-white layout and creates a beautiful, personalized focal point.
Exposed Closets
This round clothing rack is such a stylish way to create an exposed closet. The rack is easy to reposition and makes a cool piece of furniture.
Exposed Closet
A row of wall mounted coat hangers transforms this wall into an open closet modeled after clothing shops. The pale blue wall color and sparkling chandelier are excellent touches.
Exposed Closet
The rustic open closet helps keep the loft feeling spacious. Dark neutrals and deep, rusty reds add a particularly masculine feel to the room, as well.
Exposed Closet
An unused fireplace in the bedroom makes a cool, unexpected place to hang clothing and display accessories. The black and white print and glitzy dresses are such a classic, glamorous combination.
Exposed Closet
Floor-to-ceiling shelving for shoes and simple clothing racks show off an especially glamorous fashionista's wardrobe. A sparkling pendant light overhead and striped rug underfoot are stylish touches.
Exposed Closet
This exposed closet proves what a shame it would be to put such bright, colorful clothing behind closet doors. The mix of vintage pieces and bold patterns is simply charming and beautiful.
Exposed Closet
A whole wall of clothing adds instant style and personal flavor to this room. The clothing racks even provide plenty of room for a workspace as well. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8
