Finding The Perfect Desk

http://www.elledecor.com/image/tid/6380?page=6

Often times finding the perfect desk can be a difficult decision. While some need lots of storage space others are fine with little to none. Choose a desk that fits your needs. If you are frequently at your desk more storage space is necessary. Don’t be scared to choose a desk with color. Brown and black are not the only colors for a desk. Turquoise,  orange, or yellow can be used as well. When you are searching for the right desk don’t be afraid to buy a smaller dining room table. Dining room tables take away the feeling of a typical desk. Choose a desk that makes a statement. You want your desk to be the focus of your office. A desk that is too small in a large space will not stand out. By making sure the proportion is right, your desk will have a ‘wow’ factor. By choosing the right desk to fit your needs, you will be more productive. Don’t follow rules, just do.

Space's I'm Loving: Part XX

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's unique furnishings, accessories, and overall design

How cool is this space? Designed by owner Yvan Mispelaere in Paris is this vintage modern apartment. Each piece in this space is carefully chosen and has a voice of its own. From the chairs, to the chandelier each piece could belong in a museum. The centerpiece is very cool. It brings a bit of shimmer and shine into the space. I also love the black studded divider. It's a strong contrasting color that gives the room a bit more umpf.  Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's office desk, color, and unique pieces

When I saw this office desk my heart skipped a beat (well almost)! This desk is possibly one of the coolest desks I've seen. It's unique, and makes quite the statement. I like that the base of the desk is a bit heavier, while the countertop is so thin and light. The dark color of the walls works in this space because of the different brass fixtures and hardware, lighter desk top, floors, and other accessories. If you want to paint your walls darker, make sure that the furnishings are lighter. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's clean design, mix materials, and overall design

I could definitely see this space inside of a Cape Cod home. I love the clean design. White, stainless steal, and wood accents really make this space feel fresh. The subtle touches of glass make the space feel more open. This space proves that you don't need a huge space to build a dream kitchenDo you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's wild use of materials, accessories, and vibe

As soon as I saw this bathroom I knew it was designed by Kelly Wearstler. There's something so special about her work. It's distinct and really cannot be compared to with another designer. Only Kelly could bring such unique colors of stone together and make the space work. I love the accessories, the hand, vase, and scones are super cool and original. The sink and countertop make the space. When you're in the space, you're in a while different world. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Space's I'm Loving: Part XXII

http://cdna.tid.al
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's beautiful stone work and clawfoot tub as well as light fixture

This bathroom is the perfect mix of elegant and modern. The space is all about the stone work. Because the stone is so intricate and detailed, the designer of this space, Rafael De Cardenas decided to leave everything else in the space simple and minimal. No bedazzled light fixture, paintings, cabinets, etc., just the bare necessities. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://www.architecturaldigest.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's furniture and accessories, as well as its fabulous location

Let me be honest--I'm not a huge fan of the space as a whole, but I'm incredibly in love with individual pieces in the space. From the symmetrical case pieces on either side of the windows, to the brilliant shell arm chairs to the wonderful modern artwork, many of the pieces in this space make big statements. From looking at the windows of this apartment, I'm guessing we're in New York overlooking Central Park. Can I please move in? Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follows rules, jut do.
Why I Love This Space: I love this vignette's unique pieces, as well as texturized fireplace mantel

I love a vignette. This vignette is too perfect. There is a nice mix of styles in this vignette. The fireplace is early 20th century, while the accessories have a bit more modernity to them. The brass ram is eclectic and makes a big statement is this vignette, it gives much needed height to the right side of the vignette. Without the brass ram, the vignette would be far more somber. Each piece in this vignette has a purpose and with out it the composition would not work. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's overall design, art work, furnishings, and accessories

The overall design of this space is awesome. There is a fantastic balance between the furnishings, and the accessories in this space. Each piece complements the other. My favorite pieces in the space are the rug, arm chair in front of the desk, and desk itself. The rug adds a touch of femininity and a bit of an Eastern flare. The arm chair adds a shine to brings some interest into the space. The desk brings some rich color and elegance into the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

How To Make Your Office Space Work

http://www.kellywearstler.com/

In order to make an office Space work, you have to take out the feeling of work. Filing Cabinets, loose papers, Manila folders, and binders must be hidden. Not only do these items make an office feel crowded, but they also take away the feeling of inspiration and beauty that can easily be found in an office. Add pieces to your office that are not usually placed in an office. Find an interesting cabinet that has a unique shape or color to house your documents. Even though placing a desk against a wall can be very glamorous, usually placing a desk in the center creates an easier flow. Personally, I don’t like facing a wall to do my work. Add lamps not desk lamps. Doing this will take away the feeling of a boring office. Whether your office is in your bedroom or you have a room designated for one, there are plenty of ways to add appeal and glamour. Designing an office that fits your needs and emotions are always the key. You can add as little or as much to your office as you want. Don’t follow rules, just do.

Room Spotlight: Inspiring Modern Office

http://www.architecturaldigest.com
Fashion designer, Reed Krakoff's office, featured in Architectural Digest is full of intriguing silhouette's and creativity. It's a space where each nook and crevice has something that will catch your eye and cause you to be inspired. Though I am a huge fan of space's that are very designed with gorgeous 60s-80s period pieces, I love to be inspired by space's that are open and minimally designed with more contemporary period pieces. (ABOVE) The desk is without a doubt the focal point of this space. The legs give the desk that outer space, spider web look. It's very unusual and perfect for this open office. (BELOW 1) Krakoff opted to place books around a central table on the floor rather than have them in a bookcase. It's a great idea as it gives the floor a punch of color. (BELOW 2) A separate seating area gives the office a more laid back feel. The rocking chair shares similar angles to the desk. It ties the two spaces together. The two arm chairs arms' share similarities with Krakoff's modern square chunky heels. What do you think of Krakoff's office? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Fashion Meets Brutalist Design

Look 1
http://maciejratajski.blogspot.com/2011/08/fk-yeah-brutalism.html

The Monument, Villa-Lobos Park, Sao Paolo, Brazil is an example of Brutalist Architecture. The clean lines and raw concrete material of the structure are the core of Brutalism. What fascinates me about this structure is the large overhang. It is extremely functional as it protects the stage from the elements, yet has a remarkable form. The seating that spans the outside of the stage has built in stairs, which is a unique design element and allows for easy access to the stage.

Create This Look In Your Home:

Whether you buy these items or ones at a cheaper cost, the key to recreating the look of this Brutalist structure in your home is to bring in neutral colors, concrete, and minimal clutter. Neutral colors can be brought in through rugs, furniture and paint. Concrete can be brought in through tabletops and sculptures. Minimal clutter is all about pieces that have modern finishes, and not too much details. The 1940s Steel and Rush chair is by Colette Gueden and from Alan Moss. The Rush seat and back are in the same color family as the structure. The Steel frame has clean lines, as does the structure. The 1960s winged Brass Brutalist chandelier is by Feldman Co. and from Dolce. The chandelier’s jagged edges resemble the structures cracked surface. In addition I choose the chandelier because, it is in the true spirit of Brutalism. The 20th Century lime green glazed bowl is by Otto + Gertrud Natzler and from Archer. The simple finish and rich green color resembles both the grass and simplicity of the structure. The brown rim of the bowl is in a similar color family as the structure. The vintage 1970s abstract Ceramic bust is from Showplace Antique + Design Center. If you look at the structure’s overhang you will notice solid grayish stripes running horizontally. In between the stripes is a brownish color. I choose the Ceramic bust because, it mirrors the variation in color of the structure’s overhang. The vintage Wool 20th century Moroccan rug is from Nazmiyal. The delicate vertical stripes mirror the structures seating and stairs.

Dress It Up This Way:

This look resembles aspects of both the structure and featured home look. The black leather and wool bomber jacket with curved shoulders is by Rick Owens. The jacket’s clean lines greatly resemble the clean lines of the structure. The knee length pleated herringbone wool skirt is by Mulberry. The skirt’s pleated design, and Yves Saint Laurent  shoes resemble the structures stairs and seating. The leather Edie purse is from J. Crew. The mint colored purse and Paloma Crystal sunglasses resemble the grass.

Look 2
http://www.interiorarcade.com/

This fascinating room is designed by architect Guilherme Torres. The room is the essence of Brutalism because, it uses concrete, the furniture has angular forms and the structural materials of the building are exposed. The blue sofa has many patterned pillows on it. The patterned pillows break the clean minimalist design and give the space more color and warmth. The textured rug has a rough surface which is quite popular in Brutalist spaces. The low hanging chandelier is a smart idea because, of the high ceilings. In addition, the low hanging chandelier provides effective light which lessens the need of a table lamp.

Create This Look In Your Home:

Whether you buy these items or ones at a cheaper cost, the key to recreating the look of this Brutalist space in your home is to bring in a gray color palette with a splash of color, concrete, and texture. Gray can be brought in through tabletops, furniture and paint. Concrete can be brought in through chairs and sculptures. Texture can be brought in through rugs, pillows, and plush materials. The 1960s jeweled crystal and Chrome pendant is by Lobmeyr and from Decorum. The pendant’s beautiful crystals resemble the chandelier used above the desk. The pendant’s clean lines and simple form resemble the overall look of the space. The 1960s ribbon chairs are from Robert Dickson and Lesley Rendall. The chairs white color and form resemble the desk chair and lamp shades. The silver frame resembles the exposed building materials. The vintage Wool 20th century Moroccan rug is from Nazmiyal. The rugs striking color add an element of surprise. In addition, the rug’s texture resembles the vast array of pillows on the sofa.

Dress It Up This Way:

This look resembles aspects of both the space and featured home look. The outfit is from the Spring 2012 collection by Louis Vuitton. The bold blue color is in the same color family as the sofa, the gentle flowers resemble the patterns on the pillows. The white sunglasses  with gold detail are from the Spring 2012 collection by Louis Vuitton, they resemble the rug and desk chair. The white paper box-style leather clutch bag is by Maison Martin. The simple clutch and Satin Charlotte Olympia pumps mirror the overall simplicity of the space. You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Featured Home: Diane von Furstenberg

http://lovefashionmoney.com
Diane von Furstenberg's Parisian apartment is full of personality and glamour. The apartment screams DVF, with its globally inspired furnishings and patterned textiles. (ABOVE) Diane's desk is neatly organized with tin's for her writing utensils, and given a touch of color with a bouquet of pink flowers. (BELOW 1) Diane's office is quite simple, a desk, and a sofa. A simply designed office space keeps clutter at a minimum. I love how she brought color and pattern into the space. The view out the window from her chair is probably incredible. (BELOW 2) Diane's bedroom remains neutral except for the animal print bedspread. Normally I love a white bedspread, but because the rest of the space is subdued the bedspread is a nice burst of energy and color. A canopy bed is so relaxing. (BELOW 3) Diane's library features built in shelves to house her huge selection of books. The lounge chair looks like she picked it up from somewhere in Asia, or Morocco? What do you think of DVF's apartment?

The Color Of October

1.  Templeton Apartment Sofa by Jonathan Adler
2. Boomerang Vintage 1960’s Desk by Maurice Calka
3. Canning Lattice Overlay Pillow by Dransfield & Ross
4. Funky Classic Cone Chair by Vintage Looks
5. Orange Ceramic Lamp 1970 by Benjamin Wilson

http://www.kellywearstler.com/

The color orange is one of my favorites. It’s bright, filled with energy and the color of October. As you take your kids out tonight and fill their trick or treat bags as well as yours, take note of some colorful inspiration. Bring any orange element into your home. Above, you'll find some of my favorite orange pieces.

1.  Absolutely, love the white base. Gives the sofa a fresh feel. 2How could you not love a desk with such curves? 3. It works with any space. Plus it reminds of pumpkins. 4. Stick it in a gothic mansion and it will still look awesome. 5. I'm in love with 1970's French vintage.

You can add as little or as much orange to your home as you want. Don’t follow rules, just do.

Spaces I'm Loving: Part II

http://sukio.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's casual elegance.

The furnishings in this space are all very elegant, however, the barstools and objets d'art give the space its casual feel. I don't think a space should feel too serious. The painting and lamp, give the space the kick it needs. What do you love about this space?

http://www.hermanmiller.com/lifework/tag/home-office-ideas/
Why I Love This Space: I love this space because, of its mix of styles.

The great purple desk chair, the laid back wood armchair, and the traditional lamp work harmoniously in this space, but all have their own voice. The wall of differently sized pictures adds to the space's eclectic feel. What do you love about this space?

http://www.architecturaldigest.com/
Why I Love This Space: I love the wall mural in this space as well as the burnt red chairs and furnishings.
Wall murals are a great way to add some life to your space. Unlike paintings, wall murals allow one to be surrounded by one continuous piece of work. The burnt red furnishings and chairs contrast wonderfully with the creamy wall color and lamps. Are you a fan of the wall mural?

http://400sqft.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Why I Love This Space: I love the 70s/80s inspired malachite table and gold furniture pieces.

The beautiful malachite table is a great piece as it can be used as a desk, console table, dining table, etc. Spending more money on pieces with multiple uses is a smart idea. The mirror above the malachite table adds a touch of retro elegance to the space. What do you love about this space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

The Key To Owning A Great Bedroom

http://www.thefashionface.com/2011/10/geometric-goddess.html

http://www.vogue.com/vogue-daily/article/vd-web-extra-more-photographs-of-kelly-wearstlers-home/
Your bedroom is your sanctuary. At the end of the day you open your bedroom door in hope of relaxation. Keep your bedroom clutter free. The cleaner your bedroom is the better, open spaces make one feel calm and collective. If you have the ability of having a desk in another part of your home, do so. A desk in a bedroom automatically triggers the feeling of work. Own a great bed. While some like having a softer mattress, others opt for a firmer one. You want your bed to be a place for relaxing dreams and good sleep. Finding the right mattress is the key to owning a great bedroom. Make sure you have good lighting. Before I go to sleep I always love to sneak in some reading time. A good lamp or a wall lamp next to your bed is ideal. Don’t place a TV in a bedroom. Reading a magazine or talking with your partner is much more rewarding. With technology always around us it’s good to take a break from it. You can add as little or as much to your bedroom as you want. Don’t follow rules, just do.
