Space's I'm Loving: Part XXII

http://cdna.tid.al
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's beautiful stone work and clawfoot tub as well as light fixture

This bathroom is the perfect mix of elegant and modern. The space is all about the stone work. Because the stone is so intricate and detailed, the designer of this space, Rafael De Cardenas decided to leave everything else in the space simple and minimal. No bedazzled light fixture, paintings, cabinets, etc., just the bare necessities. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's furniture and accessories, as well as its fabulous location

Let me be honest--I'm not a huge fan of the space as a whole, but I'm incredibly in love with individual pieces in the space. From the symmetrical case pieces on either side of the windows, to the brilliant shell arm chairs to the wonderful modern artwork, many of the pieces in this space make big statements. From looking at the windows of this apartment, I'm guessing we're in New York overlooking Central Park. Can I please move in? Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follows rules, jut do.
Why I Love This Space: I love this vignette's unique pieces, as well as texturized fireplace mantel

I love a vignette. This vignette is too perfect. There is a nice mix of styles in this vignette. The fireplace is early 20th century, while the accessories have a bit more modernity to them. The brass ram is eclectic and makes a big statement is this vignette, it gives much needed height to the right side of the vignette. Without the brass ram, the vignette would be far more somber. Each piece in this vignette has a purpose and with out it the composition would not work. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's overall design, art work, furnishings, and accessories

The overall design of this space is awesome. There is a fantastic balance between the furnishings, and the accessories in this space. Each piece complements the other. My favorite pieces in the space are the rug, arm chair in front of the desk, and desk itself. The rug adds a touch of femininity and a bit of an Eastern flare. The arm chair adds a shine to brings some interest into the space. The desk brings some rich color and elegance into the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Space's I'm Loving: Part XXIII

http://31.media.tumblr.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's vintage furniture and accessories

This phenomenal office space features furniture that dates back to the 1950s and 60s. I love the simplicity of the pieces. My favorite piece is the desk. I love the ability of having shelving on the opposite side. Pops of color are brought in through the area rug. The furnishings in this space are fitting for the architecture. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's furniture pieces and accessories as well as stone work

Bringing stone into a home can be quite challenging. Add too much and the space can be quite cold, add too little and it does not make enough impact. By placing a super cozy area rug, as well as cloth armchair, the space feels warm and inviting. I love the swivel tubchair, and Benni Ourain area rug. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's architecture, as well as unique furniture and accessories.

This space has an incredible architecture. The original windows, built in cabinets, and plank floors bring that sense of elegance and originality into the space. To complement the originality of the architecture, the designer of this space brought pieces that hold their own, yet work well together. My favorite pieces are the console table and dining table and chairs. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://cdna.tid.al
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's wood paneling, lighter furnishings, and ceiling fixture.

The wood paneling in this space is remarkable. It grounds the room, and brings so much warmth and texture into the space. Wood paneling in a space can go incredibly wrong if not done correctly. It can either look dated, or it be overpowering. To soften the wood paneling, the designer of this space placed lighter colored furnishings. I love how these pieces pop against the wood. The ceiling fixture brings a pop of excitement into the space! Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Glass In Between

http://artfrontgallery.com
I'm a huge fan of this series of glass in between rocks and books by Japanese-born artist Ramon Todo. To create this wonderful juxtaposition, Todo used fragments of the Berlin wall, volcanic rock, and books, and placed in between the two surfaces a perfectly cut, very smooth, fragment of glass. The result is an incredible combination of opaque and translucent. (ABOVE) This Marble and stone piece is my favorite in the series. I like the lighter colored rock, and water-blue glass. There's a coolness to the piece. I could see a desk surface in this material, a counter top, or even a light fixture.

http://artfrontgallery.com

(1) I like how the glass pops against this dark volcanic rock. The very coarse rock surrounding a very smooth fragment of glass creates a beautiful contrast.
http://artfrontgallery.com
2
(2) This piece of stone and fragment of glass share a similar likeness. What do I mean? Well, both the piece of stone and glass are linear, and have straight lines. They work well together and create a strong piece.

(3) A piece of orange stone found in Paris. I love the color of the stone and would use this color for my staircase. The way the light hits the glass causes the glass to change it's movement, complementing the rock's movements well.

(4) A blue book houses a larger piece of glass. I love the simplicity of the book. I wonder if one can open the book? What do you think of the series?

Space's I'm Loving: Part XXI

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's stone and tile work, large mirrors, hardware, and overall design

Kelly Wearstler had a field day designing Cameron Diaz's apartment. Diaz's bathroom feels very much like a Wearstler design, however, it also plays to a more simple bathroom look (simple for Kelly Wearstler)! The stone and tile work is fantastic. The tile glistens, reflecting the light. The stone countertops, are a great contrast against the tile, brass fixtures, and finishes. The lacquered vanity is simple allowing the hardware to speak. I love the idea of exaggerating the hardware as a result the vanity looks like a sculpture. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's unique furniture, and accessories

This space is all about the dining table and chairs. The dining table and chairs grounds the space, and make a statement. The moments I saw this space my eyes went directly to the chairs. The chairs almost look like two toothpicks holding a seat. The accessories in the space are very minimal. A simple chandelier, a few cowhide area rugs and a modern painting bring a little character, but don't take away for the dining table and chairs. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's green cabinetry, brass backsplash, accessories and overall design

If you guessed that this space also belonged to Cameron Diaz, than you got it (you won no prize, though)! Kelly Wearstler's kitchen design is very unique, tasteful and glamorous! The green cabinetry definitely makes a statement, and is extremely unique. I love the risk. The brass backsplash is modern, and looks like liquid. I love how the brass continues into the hardware, and cabinet moldings. The light fixture is to die for! Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's furnishings, and accessories

Sometimes a vignette is just as beautiful to look at as a fully designed space. The console table is low to the ground, almost looks like a coffee table, I really like this exaggeration in height. The accessories are the stars here. From Aladdin bowels, to gnomes, to a uniquely shaped vase with feather, to a great 70s Italian chandelier, the pieces in this space are out of the box and very imaginative. Is it me or does the mirror look like a protrudes from the wall? Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Living Luxuriously On The Waterfront

http://www.sothebysrealty.com

Nestled between the trees, on the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, sits a 1923 mansion. With a beautiful tan stone and white façade, with mint green shutters and meticulously groomed lawn, the mansion is at once grand, but inviting. (ABOVE) The grouping of shrubs adjacent the fountain separate the open lawn by defining the space. The semi-hipped roof allows for the instillation of windows. (BELOW 1) A breezeway connects the two structures and a large driveway accommodates guests. The touch of shrubs on either side of the front entrance soften the driveway and home. (BELOW 2) The shrubs at the edge of the pool deck define the space. The balcony is functional as it permits entertaining on the deck and below. The ivy softens the black iron fence. (BELOW 3) The stone pool deck is modern and contrasts with the traditional architecture of the mansion. The green tiled pool bottom complements the beautiful green lawn. The black arm chairs feature a design that resembles the iron work of the fence.

Create This Look In Your Home:

Whether you buy these items or ones at a cheaper cost, the key to recreating the look of this mansion in your home is to bring in neutral colors, metals, and subtle details. Neutral colors can be brought in through rugs, furniture and paint. Metals can be brought in through vases, sculptures  and light fixtures. Subtle details can be brought in through a unique pattern and an unexpected item. The 1980s Milo Baughman, originally upholstered arm chairs with a gold base, are from Talisman. I choose these arm chairs because, they are in the same color family as the tan stone and white façade of the mansion. In addition, the soft lines on the back of the arm chairs mirror the windows grille pattern. The vintage 1960s brass ceiling lamp, is from Rewire LA. The ceiling lamp resembles the lush landscaping and shrubbery. The vintage Wool 20th century Moroccan rug is from Nazmiyal. The rug is in the same color family as the pool deck, the black pattern on the rug resembles the iron fence and lounge chairs. The 1970s bronze figurative sculpture, is from Talisman. The sculpture's intricate details and rich movement resembles the iron fence. The 1960s porcelain plates are from Vandekar. They remind me of the beautiful tile found at the bottom of the pool. The 1940s Barry Reid vase is from Sam Kaufman Gallery. The rich blue color of the vase is in a similar color family as the window shutters. In addition, the cracked design of the vase resembles the balcony deck floor. You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

My Three Tips: To A Well Designed Pool Deck

http://www.mrandmrssmith.com
Tip #1: Stone or Grass Deck?
When you are designing the pool deck, you must decide how you will use the space. Are you planning on having much outdoor furniture or space to run on and play with the kids? Use stone for the pool deck if you would like to have seating areas. A stone pool deck defines the space and keeps your furniture clean by preventing a muddy ground. A grass pool deck is ideal if you want to have more space for playing with the dog or the kids.

Tip #2: Indoor or Outdoor Furniture?
Today outdoor spaces are all about being extensions of the home. Wicker and metal furniture is not the only way to go. When choosing furniture for your pool deck select pieces that are durable yet look like they can belong in your Living or Dining room. A perfect example is the Viceroy pool deck (BELOW 2). These pieces all have an "indoor" look, yet work well outside.

Tip #3: Managing the Mess
If you don't have the luxury of having a pool house to store towels and for guests to rinse off, then plan a place on the deck. When all pool related items are neatly put away, the pool deck will feel clean and be enjoyable to use. If guests have a place to rinse off, then less dirt will be brought into the home. A little tiding will go a long way!

(ABOVE) This pool and deck is absolutely stunning. Infinity pools are a favorite of mine. The pool deck is very simple with only a few Chaise lounge chairs. Anyone getting a retro vibe from this pool deck? (BELOW 1) Here the pool deck is smaller with a greater emphasis on the lawn. This home has a fantastic patio where one may sit and soak in the beautiful rounded pool. I like the touch of having potted plants on the deck. (BELOW 2) This pool deck at the Viceroy in California is gorgeous. Designed by Kelly Wearstler, this pool deck is perfect for laying back and relaxing. I love the furniture as the pieces do not scream "outdoor". The pillows are a nice touch. Cabana's are a great idea for residential pool decks as well! (BELOW 3) Planting around the pool deck looks great. Keep plant heights varied to create interest. I love the fence around the pool, definitely has old world charm. What do you think about the pools featured here? What are some of your tips to a well designed pool deck?

Person Of Influence: Andrea Palladio

http://architecture.about.com/od/greatbuildings/ig/Palladio/Villa-Almerico-Capra-.htm

Andrea Palladio was born in Italy in 1508. Palladio was influenced by Roman and Greek architecture and is widely considered the most influential person in the history of Western architecture. Many of Palladio’s buildings are of brick covered with stucco, which was an advantage to his more financially pressed clients. Palladio’s success and influence came from his structures extraordinary beauty and ornate details, that were harmonious with the culture of the time and surpassed his clients expectations. Even though Palladio’s buildings were all in a relatively small part of Italy, his influence is far-reaching, inspiring many architects to create structures that mirrored his style.  (ABOVE) The Villa Almerico Capra is symmetrical with a temple porch in front. The structure is also referred to as the Rotunda, which refers to the villa's circle within a square design. Palladio's inspiration for this structure was the Roman Pantheon. Thomas Jefferson was inspired by the Villa Almerico Capra when he designed his home, Monticello. (BELOW 1) Palladio modeled the facade of the San Giorgio Maggiore after a Greek temple. The beautiful white facade, with four columns and ornate details, is impeccable and make a strong statement against the brick church. (BELOW 2) The Villa Foscari was built between 1558 and 1560. It is relatively different from Palladio's other works. The touch of green ivy that runs the perimeter of the structure adds a natural touch to the structure by softening the brick. (BELOW 3) The Villa Contarini is a baroque structure. The exterior window moldings define the structure.

Create This Look In Your Home:

Whether you buy these items or ones at a cheaper cost, the key to recreating the look of Andrea Palladio's buildings in your home is to bring in stone, neutral colors, and intricate subtle details. The "Mongolfiera" 1980s Italian chair by Piero Fornasetti is from Holly Johnson. The beautiful design on the back of the chair resembles the details seen throughout Palladio's work. These details can be seen in the window moldings and sculptures. The 21st century, Italian Taksim side table by Konstantin is from Siglo Moderno. The marble and color resembles the facade of the San Giorgio Maggiore. The vintage Turkish 1940s rug is from Keivan Woven Arts. The rugs color and details resembles the Villa Almerico Capra, and Villa Contarini. The 1970s Italian chandelier by Kamer is from Visiona. The shape resembles the columns, in addition, the crisp white resembles the simplicity of Palladio's work. What inspires you about Andrea Palladio's work? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Greenwich Classic Estate

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
Located in Greenwich, Connecticut is this stunning 1932 English Manor. The home is situated on 1.5 acres of wonderfully manicured lawns and gardens. (ABOVE) I love the symmetry of the home, and landscaping. It has a nice balance, but it's not perfect. The hedges and color from the trees look beautiful against the home. (BELOW 1) The windows of the home are gorgeous. They're original and have much character. The backyard is perfectly maintained. The grass looks beautiful. I love the stone work that separates the lawn from the pool. Tucked to the left of the home is a great sitting area. (BELOW 2) The pool is a perfect rectangle. Personally, I think a rectangular pool is way more stylish than a curved pool. From the pool deck, the home looks more like a cottage, than an English inspired mansion. (BELOW 3) In addition to a pool, the property features a tennis court. The tennis court is fenced in by a wonderful hedge. The slate walkway to the right leads to the pool. What do you think of the home?
