Weekly Start Off: No 1

http://media.cmgdigital.com
Happy Monday, December 3, 2012 readers! Over the past several months I've received emails from many of you asking me to start a new series where I took a break from writing about architecture, design, or fashion and wrote about different things happening at BAD and stuff I'm doing, and interested in. Well, here is my new series "Weekly Start Off", each Monday I hope to discuss different links I'm checking out, places I'm going, and stuff I'm buying. I want to get to know each of my fabulous readers on a more personable level and I hope this will allow me to do so.

1. Can you believe that we are already beginning the first week of December? I feel like November just flew on by and now I have to worry about getting ready for the holiday's. Seeing the Rockefeller Christmas Tree, puts me in the holiday spirt. There is something about the tree that causes me get all excited and tingly! I can't tell if its the shear size of it or simply the bright colors. All I know is once the tree is lit, I better start getting the decorations out.

2. Speaking of decorations, I found this cute tree ornament from Bergdorf Goodman. My grandmother has a phenomenal collection of ornaments that she has been collecting for years. I'm kind of jealous, so I started my own little collection and each year I like adding a few to it.

3. I found this cute Christmas table and pinned it to my Pinterest. I love decorating the table--any table during the holidays. It's so much fun to whip out the fancy china, vases, and bowls and style the table with flowers. A well designed table makes any space look finished.

4. Go on any design, fashion website and you'll be overwhelmed with the amount of gift guides you can find. I found this great cardigan from Kelly Wearstler's "Fetish of Form" gift guide. It looks so warm and fluffy and has that great Wearstler flair!

5. This week I'm getting my copy of "Rhapsody" by Kelly Wearstler. It's Wearstler fourth design book and I've had the chance to skim through it and was very impressed. The book is divided by chapters, where each chapter focus's on a specific design topic such as "Curated Compositions". Each topic has a short story and inspirational pictures. It's well laid out and a great read for any design lover.

Weekly Start Off: No 14

Happy Monday, March 18, 2013 readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! For this week's "Weekly Start Off" post I decided to turn my focus towards Milan fashion. Each one of the looks below are stylish and colorful. Either a bold pattern or a bold color is perfect for the spring.
http://www.vogue.com
1. I absolutely love this look. The patterned dress is from Dolce and Gabanna, the dress has a strong graphic pattern. The clear clutch is very popular at the moment. This look is perfect for an evening out. Don't be scared of wearing something that is extremely busy such as the dress above. Just be sure not to mix patterns if you are wearing separates. A loud top and a loud skirt is a fashion no no.

http://www.vogue.com
2. I love the idea of wearing lots of bracelets on one arm. It makes the overall look feel young and fresh. If you're going to wear a lot of bracelets on one arm, be sure that they are united in some way. For example, all the bracelets should have a certain pattern, or color that unites them. Here the bracelets all have some neon. Here's a more affordable version of the studded clutch, in a slightly different color and pattern.

http://www.vogue.com
3. I love the turquoise cut-outs of the top and the turquoise stone on the clutch. These two pieces work so beautifully together. Using one color to unite two pieces is a great idea. Even though the design of the clutch is different to the design of the top, the color unites them. Wear this top and pair it with this clutch.

http://www.vogue.com
4. How cute are these heels? I love the cut-outs and the bright purple color. A pump can make or break and outfit. If you decide to wear a statement shoe, be sure to keep the rest of the look simple. I think these heels would look cool as a high top sneaker. What do you think?

Weekly Start Off: No 11

Happy Monday, February 24, 2013 readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! For this week's "Weekly Start Off" post I decided to turn my focus towards classic architecture. I love classic architecture, because you can furnish your home in a wide array of styles. Like modern, traditional, eclectic, and live in a classically built house? No problem! All these interior styles will work and look great in any one of these homes.
http://www.sothebysrealty.com
1. A beautiful Neo-Classical home located in Newport Beach, CA with unparalleled views of the water. Despite the home being rather new, it looks like it has been around for quite some time. I find the many windows, and doors to enhance the overall architecture of the house. The well maintained lawn and planting add to the beauty. I wish I was kicking back by the pool right now!

http://www.christiesrealestate.com
2. A wonderful manor house located in Switzerland. The home's architecture has a classic Swiss feel. I absolutely love the center dome. It's a touch of the unexpected. If you place your finger over the dome and half circle entryway the home has a very ordinary look. The dome and half circle entryway make the home. The potted flowers and shrubs, add color where needed.

http://www.stribling.com
3. London has some of the most magnificent looking townhouses. Townhouses like the one above, for example, are clean and manage to add a little green life to their facade. The window cornices are necessary to give the facade some architectural pizazz. When you think about it, a townhouse only has the front face to make a statement. Heavily adorned cornices, and doors, and detailed window fences as well as phenomenal edging is needed. I love the flower boxes!

http://www.christiesrealestate.com
4. This house pays homage to many different classic architecture styles. Greek, ItalianFrench, English, styles have influenced the architecture of the home. The triangular design above the front door is very Greek as well as Italian, Palladio. The windows, doors, and Manson roof are very French. And the way the stone is arranged on the front facade, reminds me of an English townhouse.

http://www.christiesrealestate.com
5. Located in Italy, this home has commanding views of the sea. The home's architecture is heavily influenced by Greek design and the work of Palladio. If you image the home without the columns it would have a completely different look. It would not have the same grandeur, nor the same elegance.

Weekly Start Off: No 15

Happy Tuesday, April 2, 2013 readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and holiday! I took a little three day weekend. I can't believe we're already in April, is it me or did March just fly by? For today's Weekly Start off post I decided to focus on architecture. The following homes all have different architectural influences and fantastic outdoor spaces. Each home has something that makes it standout. Prepare to be inspired!
http://www.sothebysrealty.com
1. Located in Virginia, this home's architecture pays homage to both classic American and early Italian design. I love the architecture, and landscaping. The center courtyard leads you to a fantastic fountain. The backyard is a very calming place. The variation in planting is what gives this backyard that 'wow' factor. A great new top for tending to the garden.

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
2. A classic white house, located in upstate New York. This home is very grand and looks like the perfect place to entertain. After one arrives they are greeted by a large staircase that leads to the front door. I'm not a huge fan of the far left expansion to the house. A new look to make your entrance down that fantastic front staircase.

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
3. Talk about a fantastic front porch! This home is located in Italy and has sweeping views of the city and lake. The architecture of the home is extremely Italian. What makes this home impressive is the moldings around the windows. I can definitely see one entertaining on either the first floor porch or the second floor terrace. A new look for an afternoon entertaining outside.

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
4. Placed on an archaeological park is this brilliant, historic villa located in Italy. The drive that leads to the house is lined with fantastic lilac. The home is surrounded by trees and flowers. What a wonderful place to raise a family. In addition to being around such wonderful greenery is a pool. A new look for a picnic on the back lawn.

Weekly Start Off: No 13

Happy Monday, March 11, 2013 readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! For this week's "Weekly Start Off" post I decided to turn my focus towards architecture. From classic Swedish estates, modern Spanish mansions, to gorgeous French properties, this week I'm featuring a diverse selection of properties. Which property is your favorite?
http://www.sothebysrealty.com
1. Built in Switzerland in the 1970s, this classic home has many classic elements. What I love about this property is both the simple landscaping, ivy, and roof. Even though this home was built in the 1970s it manages to look like it was built in the 1920s. I like that the home is not extremely tall, it blends into its surroundings much better. A great new look for an afternoon sitting in this Swedish backyard.

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
 2. A modern home located in Spain! The wall of windows and glass railings allow lots of natural light to pass into the home. In addition, one has unobstructed views of the sea. The landscape is minimal as to complement the architecture of the home. The architecture of the home reminds me of a ship at sea. The larger first floor terrace has a pool! A great new look for an afternoon sitting by the pool and looking at the ocean.

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
3. A wonderful home located in Paris! The home is located in the 16th arrondissement. The property features a large garden and open terraces, a two car garage and four floors. The architecture is classic French. I love the mansard style roof. The outdoor space's are wonderfully landscaped. How gorgeous are the sculptures? Being that the property is located in Paris, such a wonderful outdoor space is a dime in the rough! A great new look for an afternoon walking though Paris.

http://www.sothebysrealty.com
4. Located behind a fantastic iron gate in Palm Beach, Florida is this sophisticated mansion. The home was built in 2008 and has many modern day amenities. I love the three large iron detailed front doors. Once you pass through the iron gates you are greeted by a center motor court. The motor court is done with large stone tiles, between the tiles is grass. Tall green hedges, hide the stone fence. A great new look for an afternoon in Palm Beach, Florida, relaxing in this home.

Weekly Start Off: No 16

Happy Monday, April 8, 2013 readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! For this week's "Weekly Start Off" post I decided to turn my focus towards transition pieces between winter and spring. If you live in a place that experiences the four seasons, like me, than chances are you're in search of those key transition pieces. You don't want to wear a pair of shorts, but you also don't want to whip out that winter jacket in April.
http://www.vogue.com
1. A great blazer with a strong pop of color is a perfect transition piece. A pair of Converse gives the look a more laid back feel, in addition, they're the ideal spring causal shoe. I love a bike with a space to place your bag, so cute! A pair of floral pants, is a fun flirty way to welcome in spring, yet still keep your legs warm.

http://www.vogue.com
2. Yes, I know, even though it may only be 50 degrees outside, you're sick of wearing closed toe shoes and want to put on your sandals. I love a great, brightly colored pair of sandals. The bag is from Balenciaga, Vogue fashion editor, Grace Coddington collaborated in the design. Proceeds from the bag went to an Animal Rescue fund. She's cute, and she's helping animals in need.

http://www.befashiony.com
3. A bright yellow trench coat is perfect for this time of the year. It's an extremely classic piece. It can be worn to the office, or to a dinner with a great pair of pants, or dress. The right trench coat, can accentuate your figure. I absolutely love that she styled it with a yellow clutch and pair of cat eye sunglasses. So glam.

http://www.vogue.com
4. A geometric print bag, is a great transition piece. You can wear it in the winter, and you can wear it in the spring. If you look at the center of the cube, you'll notice that the print looks three dimensional. Get the above bag here. This geometric theme carried through into her bangles. Love it!

Weekly Start Off: No 12

Happy Monday, March 4, 2013 readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! For this week's "Weekly Start Off" post I decided to turn my focus towards fashion. Every girl needs a bold accent piece in her look. Whether that accent comes as a graphic bag, bright colored top, or studded heel, every look needs a little "wow". Each one of the looks below have that certain pow pow, you'll notice that a little pow pow will go along way!
http://www.vogue.com
1. A graphic top with a bold print or scene is a great way to make a big statement. I love the architecture inspired top that this girl is wearing. The bold orange band at the bottom of the top breaks the brown and adds a little color. If you choose to go all the way with a bold top, don't be afraid of wearing a bold necklace. The necklace she is wearing works with the look. Be sure that the necklace works with the colors already of the top.

http://www.vogue.com
 2. A studded heel can do no harm. Especially a studded heel attached to a colorblocked shoe. If you want to wear a pump with a little pow pow, be sure that the rest of the look is simple. A bold pump will make a huge statement and if worn with a bold top, pant, or necklace, you can end up looking a little too bold. I'd love to see this shoe paired with a hot pair of leather skinny pants.

http://www.vogue.com
 3. An embellished sweater, collar, or top is a wonderful, feminine way of adding a little pow pow. I absolutely love this embellished sweater and collared top. If you're not a jewelry person, these type of looks are a great way of having a little shimmer and shine. An embellished collared top can be mixed and matched with pretty much any type of pant, and worn with a wide array of jackets, sweaters, etc.

http://www.vogue.com
1. Every girl needs her statement bag. A statement bag will bring the whole look together. A Reed Krakoff bag is a phenomenal choice. These bags can be worn with many different types of tops, dresses, pants, etc., and are timeless. I'm not the type of person who says that every girl needs ten or more bags. I always suggest having one or two, well made bags that will stand the test of time and will make a statement.

Weekly Start Off: No 10

Happy Monday, February 18, 2013 readers! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! For this week's "Weekly Start Off" post I decided to turn my focus towards spring fashion. As I've mentioned before, the dark gloomy colors of winter are getting to me, so to see bright spring outfits coming to fruition makes me grin from ear to ear. Street style is a great way to get a pulse of how looks from the runway translate to people's closets. The photographs below were taken during London spring 2013 fashion week.
http://www.vogue.com
1. Neon has not left the scene quite yet. So don't be scared to recycle that neon top that you have in your closet from a few seasons back. A bright neon top keeps your outfit looking fresh and youthful. However, unless you want to look like an exploding light bulb, it's important to contrast with a darker color! The dark skirt gives the look an edgy, rock vibe and doesn't compete with the top. The shoes bring together the whole look and add a kick of red.

http://www.vogue.com
2. Don't be afraid of using lots of patterns. This look works, because all the stripes are going in the same direction. The snakeskin bag immediately grabs your attention. The contrasting colors and textures are a statement. To be honest, I would have rather seen her wearing a brighter snakeskin bag.

http://www.vogue.com
3. I have a feeling that the zipper on these boots is supposed to look like a horses tail? However, I can't figure out what the main print on the boot is supposed to be? Is it the horses head? But then again what horse has upside down eyelashes? But then again, it's a pair of boots! Either way I find them to be quite the conversation starters. I love you Nicholas Kirkwood

http://www.vogue.com
 4. Are you looking at those sunglasses? Well I am! They're fun, sparkly, and oh so feminine. I feel like she's about do a Covergirl commercial, or maybe L'Oreal hair? The bag is that perfect deep blue color, it looks wonderful with a cream colored suit.

http://www.vogue.com
5. Color blocking, color blocking, color blocking. If you were fan of it when it first came on the scene, then you can thank the fashion gods, cause it's not going anywhere. If you hated it in the beginning, then my apologies go out to you! I have feeling the bird likes it and is trying to make a run for it with the Louis Vuitton bag!
