Inside Julia Buckingham's New Showroom

http://www.lonny.com
I'm a huge fan of designer Julia Buckingham's work. Her ability to bring together so many different styles, and having them all work in harmony with each other is quite remarkable. Buckingham's new showroom is a space full of unique pieces that have both purpose and style. (ABOVE) Buckingham's showroom space is large, to create a more cozy atmosphere, she broke the space up into many different areas. Each area of the space has it's own design theme.

(1) A closer look at the "dining area" in the space. This area is the perfect place to meet with potential clients, and discuss ideas, as well as brainstorm with the design team. Personally, the chairs are my favorite. Since the space is quite tall, desk lamps give the right amount of light.

(2) These objects are on display on the dining table. They're wonderful pieces, that add a kick to the table and the area. They're the jewelry piece for the table.
3
(3) This seating area is located on the opposite side of the space. It's different from the "dining area", as well as any other seating area in the space. I really like the porter-like armchair as well as the "mushroom" stools to the left.
4
(4) A closer look at the "mushroom" stools. These stools serve two purposes: They provide added seating, and bring a piece of art into the space. The architecture of the space is very industrial, these stools bring a bit of color into the space.

(5) This vignette is very malachite themed. The malachite box on the console table brings so much texture, and movement to the area. The purple, circle painting breaks the continuous green malachite found in the area. What do you think of Julia Buckingham's new showroom?

Space's I'm Loving: Part XIV

http://www.lonny.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's laid back, chic feel, as well as the pottery and sculpture

Kelly Wearstler has done it again! This time, she has waved her magic Wearstler wand to design this outdoor seating area at her California home. The seating area was actually featured in Lonny Magazine and was designed to entertain Wearstler on Mother's day. The different pillows, and chairs, are chic, but because of their difference, give the space a more laid back feel. The head sculpture on the table is fabulous, the Mow Hawk hair crystals look like jewelry. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's 1920s/ 1960s feel. It's the perfect mix of old glamour meets modern glamour

This space has a fantastic 1920s/1960s vibe. The architecture of the space is clearly very turn of the century. Gold leafing, highly decorated moldings, and fireplace with columns. The actual pieces in the space are very 60s. Take for example, the scones, sofa, and arm chairs. The flooring in the space is dark, to allow for the architecture and furniture pieces to speak without competition. You can really see how all the gold accents move through the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's use of color, and unique pieces

Talk about a space with a lot of energy. The bright blue arm chairs, sculptural silver sofa, clear standing lamps are all unique pieces that work well together. The bright blue arm chairs have a very 20s feel. My favorite piece in the space would have to be the two clear standing lamps. They have both a vintage feel, but also a futuristic-like feel. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's architecture

This entry way and Dining area are all about the architecture. The archways, and slightly bending staircase in the entry way, and built in cabinets and old windows in the Dining area are very impressive. These space's feel inviting, simple, and do not compete, rather enhance the architecture. The archways allow for added height, the staircase has a feeling of being grand, but not too over the top. The built in cabinet allows for more square footage, and the original windows make one feel like they are dining in a home with much history. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your home as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

My Three Tips: To A Well Decorated Dining Room

http://www.delightfull.eu/en/
Tip #1: Buy A Light Fixture That Pop's
When you look at your dining room, what's the first thing that you look at? If you said table, than your light fixture ain't poppin'! Your light fixture should make one of the biggest statements in your dining space. A brilliant light fixture sets the tone in the space, and makes the space. It's sort of like walking out of the house without a jewlery piece or your iPhone. It's that little sparkle and shine that the space needs.

Tip #2: Spice Up Your Ceiling
The first post I posted on BAD in 2011 was about spicing up your ceiling. Two years later, I still strongly advocate making your fifth wall something to remember. Of course a white ceiling looks nice, but there's something about a ceiling that is painted stripes, or done in wood paneling that brings it all together. I'm sort of going through a bit of a mental dining room renovation of my dining room. I'm dreaming of a dark wood paneled ceiling, and walls, with a fantastic 60s Italian light fixture.

Tip #3: Make It Personal
So many dining rooms these days look like they came out of a catalog. Please! Make your dining room--you! Add a painting of your granny (well...), mix and match the seating, bring in some vintage lamps. Your home is an extension of your wardrobe. Let's put it this way. The apps on your phone are different than the apps on your friends phone. Your dining room should be different, it should be personal. What are your three tips?

(ABOVE) I love this light fixture. It's that statement piece that I'm writing about! It sort of looks like a musical instrument (trumpet?)

(1) In this dining space featured in lonny, the ceiling is original and funky. Just like BAD likes it! The wood molding that runs along the inner part of the ceiling brings texture into the space.

(2) The space belongs to fashion editor Kim Hersov. Why do I like this space? It's her! It doesn't look like it came out of a catalog. It's elegant, yet still has that rock-n-roll sprit. The candlesticks are from her grandmother and the chandelier is 60s Italian.

(3) How great are these floor to ceiling, wall to wall bookshelves? Bookshelves in the dining room are the ultimate personal touch. Looking at the books one reads is as personal as it gets. If you want to break up the rows and stacks of books, than stack your books in different directions, and add a few decorative objects in between.

Space's I'm Loving: Part XII

http://www.michaelhamptondesign.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's monochromatic color theme and simple elegant pieces

Sometimes a space with a monochromatic color theme and simple elegant pieces makes more of an impact on a person than an elaborate, colorful space. This space designed by Michael Hampton, has a fresh, relaxing, yet stylish feel. The chaise lounge chair, keeps the space open. Without having a back, the space appears larger. The walls are done in a cool parquet type design. Do you like such a simple space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://www.architecturaldigest.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's unique furnishings, and proportions

This space has a relaxed, put together look. It feels designed, but not overly designed. The sofa is hands down one of the statement furnishings in the space. The sofa brings a dimension of color, and a striking form into this townhouse. I love the brass standing lamp, table lamps, as well as the case piece under the windows. They all have a unique shape and look. The furnishings all have a different height. The coffee table is rather low, while the table lamps are quite tall. This mix really works. What do you think of the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's mix of classic art and laid back furnishings

I'm a huge sucker for classic art. Yes I love my vintage 60s/70s furniture, but I love to pair classic art with them. In this space, brilliant classical portraits are paired with very unassuming laid back furnishings. That difference in style makes the space far more visually interesting. When you're styling a look you never match your shoes with your bag. In design, why should one have to match classic art with classic furniture or modern art with modern furniture? What do you think of the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love that bathroom is fully mirrored

Who says you can't have a mirrored bathroom? Hey, at least it makes sharing the bathroom in the morning far less stressful. I love this bathroom featured in Lonny Magazine. The bathroom is fully mirrored, it sort of reminds me of the "What Not To Wear" 360 mirror. The space feels open and bright. If you look at the hanging mirror over the sink, you'll spot a vintage photograph behind it, pretty cool detail. What do you think of the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Spaces I'm Loving: Part XVI

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's bathtub and floors

I'm in love with Bobbi Flay's master bathroom. The bathtub, and the floors are incredible. My only issue with the bathtub is the color. As much as I love the shape, I'd rather be stepping into a white bathtub. The bathtub spout is pretty neat. The floors bring a Moroccan vibe into the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love the original features in this space

The original windows, doors, floors, and ceiling make this space. When designing older homes, it's crucial to save as much of the original details as possible. When I was renovating my 1934 modern brick home, I was careful in preserving as much of the original architecture as possible. There's something about older homes that feels solid, well built, and it's important not to take that away. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this terraces natural feel

This rooftop terrace transports me to a different location. Even though I'm only steps away from the hustle and the bustle of the city, I still feel like I'm outside, in a park setting. My favorite piece in this space is the fireplace. It takes you out of the city. The amount of greenery and flowers is fantastic. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://www.lonny.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's mix in textures

This space is full of texture. From the woven rug, to the fluffy arm chair, wood coffee table, glass end table and brass lamp. This space has all the right design elements. My favorite piece in the space is the arm chair. It's the highlight of the vignette, and looks incredibly comfortable.  Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Space's I'm Loving: Part XIII

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's elegant, opulent feel, and the two symmetrical obelisks

This 18th century manor house, has character and glamour the moment you walk into the foyer. The stone walls, and patterned floor give this space such a grand and opulent feel. The symmetrical obelisks are my favorite items in the space. They ground the entry way into the Dinning Room. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://www.elledecor.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's classic Southampton design with a nod to retro glamour

This Southampton Sitting Room was designed by designer Cynthia Frank. The space is infused with a classic Southampton design, yet has many unique pieces that gives the space that flair. The two armchairs have a laid back vintage feel, the rug brings a bohemian feel into the space, and the white paneled walls, and white lamps remind us of where we are! Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://www.lonny.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's architectural character, vintage furniture, and colorful prints

This space has so much architectural character. The original floors have a deeper finish. You can really see the age of the floors, quite beautiful. You can only see a glimpse of the Living Room, but I can tell that it's a great one. I love the vintage blue swivel chair, and the dark brown console table. The tie dye curtains, bring some life to this space. The two prints in the foyer, set the mood of the space. They tie everything together. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Why I Love This Space: I love this space's Asian landscape wallpaper

Asian design is both intricate, and beautiful. It's unlike anything the western world has. This wallpaper not only pulls the space together, but it also tells a story. The soft, monochromatic color theme of the wallpaper works well the antique western furniture. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

Space's I'm Loving: Part XXII

http://cdna.tid.al
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's beautiful stone work and clawfoot tub as well as light fixture

This bathroom is the perfect mix of elegant and modern. The space is all about the stone work. Because the stone is so intricate and detailed, the designer of this space, Rafael De Cardenas decided to leave everything else in the space simple and minimal. No bedazzled light fixture, paintings, cabinets, etc., just the bare necessities. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://www.architecturaldigest.com
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's furniture and accessories, as well as its fabulous location

Let me be honest--I'm not a huge fan of the space as a whole, but I'm incredibly in love with individual pieces in the space. From the symmetrical case pieces on either side of the windows, to the brilliant shell arm chairs to the wonderful modern artwork, many of the pieces in this space make big statements. From looking at the windows of this apartment, I'm guessing we're in New York overlooking Central Park. Can I please move in? Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follows rules, jut do.
Why I Love This Space: I love this vignette's unique pieces, as well as texturized fireplace mantel

I love a vignette. This vignette is too perfect. There is a nice mix of styles in this vignette. The fireplace is early 20th century, while the accessories have a bit more modernity to them. The brass ram is eclectic and makes a big statement is this vignette, it gives much needed height to the right side of the vignette. Without the brass ram, the vignette would be far more somber. Each piece in this vignette has a purpose and with out it the composition would not work. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

http://cdna.tid.al
Why I Love This Space: I love this space's overall design, art work, furnishings, and accessories

The overall design of this space is awesome. There is a fantastic balance between the furnishings, and the accessories in this space. Each piece complements the other. My favorite pieces in the space are the rug, arm chair in front of the desk, and desk itself. The rug adds a touch of femininity and a bit of an Eastern flare. The arm chair adds a shine to brings some interest into the space. The desk brings some rich color and elegance into the space. Do you like the space? You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.
